Constructed in the early thirteenth century on the site of a Viking settlement, Dublin Castle served for centuries as the headquarters of English and British administration in Ireland before being handed to the Irish government in 1922. Visitors can tour the State Apartments, Chapel Royal, and Viking Excavation, or explore the Chester Beatty Library, Dubh Linn gardens, and various exhibitions including census records and contemporary art installations.
