A 45-meter-tall iron elevator built in 1902 that connects the lower streets of Lisbon's Baixa district with the higher Largo do Carmo square. It is the only remaining vertical elevator among Lisbon's urban lifts and features an observation deck offering views of the city including Castelo de São Jorge. Designated a Portuguese National Monument in 2002, it remains a major tourist attraction operated as part of the city's public transport network.
