Salzwelten Salzburg is the world's oldest salt mine open to visitors, located on the Dürrnberg mountain in the Salzburgerland region. Visitors journey through 2,600 years of salt mining history across four epochs, descending through tunnels in miners' overalls, riding a mine train, sliding down miners' slides, and crossing a subterranean Austria-Germany border while experiencing a raft ride across a salt lake. Above ground, the Celtic Mountain offers a reconstructed Iron Age Celtic village, themed playground, marble runs, bouldering wall, treasure hunt, and Austria's only showcase saltworks where visitors watch artisans hand-harvest pyramid-shaped salt crystals.
