Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument features distinctive cone-shaped rock formations created by volcanic eruptions 6 to 7 million years ago, rising up to 90 feet tall with protective boulder caps perched atop softer pumice and tuff. Visitors hike two trail segments on the Pajarito Plateau in north-central New Mexico to observe these geologic formations, with opportunities for birdwatching, plant identification, and views of the Sangre de Cristo, Jemez, and Sandia mountain ranges.
