Kilmainham Gaol held thousands of prisoners for over 100 years, from minor criminals to those involved in major events in Irish history including the 1798 rebellion, 1916 Easter Rising, and Irish Civil War. Visitors take guided tours through the historic prison building and explore a museum that tells the stories of political prisoners and independence fighters, including 14 Easter Rising leaders executed by firing squad in the Stonebreaker's yard.
