La Moneda Palace is the seat of the president of the Republic of Chile, a neoclassical building constructed between 1784 and 1805 that originally served as the colonial mint house. Visitors can observe the traditional changing of the guard ceremony held every two days at 10 a.m. on weekdays and 11 a.m. on weekends, which includes a band, horse-mounted troops parading into the plaza, and lasts approximately 30 minutes; the palace's inner courtyards are also opened to the public during certain hours.
