Book this experience →

Ometepe Island in Lake Nicaragua is an important archaeological site formed by two volcanoes and inhabited since at least 1500 BC, featuring abundant prehispanic statues, petroglyphs, and pottery from the Chorotega culture and other ancient peoples. Visitors can see petroglyphs carved into stones and bedrock, as well as large basalt sculptures exhibited in the Park of Altagracia Church and the Managua National Museum, which provide evidence of the island's role as an important ceremonial center for its ancient inhabitants.
