Robben Island Museum manages and presents Robben Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site inscribed in 1999, which has been used to isolate certain people since the end of the 17th century. Visitors take a 3.5-hour guided tour by ferry from the Nelson Mandela Gateway to walk in the footsteps of those imprisoned there and understand South Africa's rich and multi-layered historical heritage spanning 500 years.
