The Royal Palace of Madrid is the largest palace in Western Europe, containing over 135,000 square metres and 3,418 rooms filled with centuries of Spanish artistic treasures and royal furnishings. Visitors explore opulently decorated chambers including the Throne Room and Gasparini Chamber, view one of Europe's finest armory collections, and see frescoes by master painters Tiepolo and Mengs commissioned during the reign of Charles III. The palace remains the official residence of the Spanish King and is one of the few royal residences of a Head of State open to the public, attracting nearly 2 million annual visitors.
