Melissani Cave is a 3.5 km explored pit cave on Kefalonia Island featuring an underground lake with a collapsed roof that allows sunlight to create striking blue-green colors in the water. Visitors enter through an underground tunnel and explore by boat, viewing stalactites while learning about the cave's ancient role as a sanctuary for the god Pan and the nymph Melissanthi. The cave's remarkable hydrological system carries water underground from sinkholes in Argostoli across the island over 14 days before emerging here.
