Terezín is a former military fortress built in 1780 that was repurposed by Nazi Germany during World War II as a ghetto and concentration camp where over 150,000 Jews were imprisoned, with about 33,000 dying there from disease and malnutrition. Visitors can see the preserved Small Fortress, which served as a Gestapo prison, and explore the Main Fortress garrison town to understand this significant Holocaust site.
