Wat Chalong is Phuket's largest and most visited temple, built in the early 19th century to honor revered monks who led locals against a Chinese rebellion in 1876 and used herbal medicine to heal the injured. The temple features a 60-meter tall Chedi housing a splinter of Buddha's bone, ornate wall and ceiling paintings depicting Buddha's life, golden statues, and a three-story structure offering panoramic views of the grounds from its top terrace.
