Gallo-Roman Museum & Archaeological Site at Saint-Romain-en-Gal

Walk seven hectares of excavated Roman Vienna across the river - streets, houses and workshops of one of the richest cities in Roman Gaul - then the museum holding its mosaics, wall paintings and 1,160 displayed objects

What to expect

Across the river from Vienne, seven hectares of Roman Vienna lie open - streets, houses, workshops and the mosaics they were floored with, excavated on the spot rather than carried off. The museum beside the dig holds 1,160 of the 3,944 catalogued finds, including wall paintings and the mosaic of the seasons. Fifteen minutes on foot from Vienne station, so you can do it on your own two feet from the boat.
