Slip into shallow, clear water at Sardine Bay to snorkel alongside young sea lions that approach and play with swimmers unprompted.
What to expect
The boat anchors in a sheltered bay where sea lion pups often swim directly up to snorkelers, twisting and diving in play. Between sea lion encounters, the group moves to a second reef patch for parrotfish, rays, and the occasional turtle. A simple onboard lunch of fresh fish and local sides follows, eaten at anchor with views back toward the volcanic coastline.
Good to know
Bring a rash guard against sun and stinging plankton; sea lion behavior is unpredictable so let them approach you rather than the reverse.
