Glide out on a shared or private panga into one of the few gulfs on Earth where humpbacks from both hemispheres overlap. Spinner and bottlenose dolphins ride the bow wake.
What to expect
Departing from the Puerto Jimenez dock, your captain reads the water for feeding birds and surface disturbance before easing toward pods. Spinner dolphins often show off with full-body leaps beside the boat. Season permitting (Aug-Oct or Dec-Mar), humpbacks surface nearby with calves. The gulf itself, ringed by unbroken rainforest, is worth the trip alone.
Good to know
Book the earliest morning slot for calmer water and better sightings; bring reef-safe sunscreen and motion sickness tablets if prone.
