Paddle silent, glassy mangrove channels at dawn when herons, kingfishers, and howler monkeys are most active and the light is best.
What to expect
You'll launch from a quiet put-in near town into a tunnel of red mangrove roots, water mirror-still at that hour. Guides point out roosting kingfishers, caimans along the banks, and troops of howler monkeys moving through the canopy. The channel opens periodically to gulf views before closing back into green shade. It's physically easy — more meditative float than workout.
Good to know
Book the 6am departure specifically; later tours lose both the wildlife and the light. Bring a dry bag for phones/cameras and reef shoes.
