Walk the Village and Market of Terre-de-Haut

An unscripted amble through the saintois village — pastel Creole houses, the fish market at dawn, a bakery selling tourment d'amour tarts still warm.

What to expect

Starting at the harbor where saintois fishing boats unload their catch, you wander narrow lanes of tin-roofed Creole cottages painted in faded pastels, past the church of Notre-Dame de l'Assomption, and toward the bakeries turning out tourment d'amour, the island's signature coconut tart, straight from the oven. Locals nod hello; there's no queue and no script.

Good to know

Go before 9am for the freshest pastries and the market at its most alive; most of the village is walkable in under an hour, leaving the rest of the morning free for the beach or fort.
