Mont Faron: Cable Car, Big Cats & WWII Panorama

Soar above Toulon's grand naval harbour by cable car to the 584m summit of Mont Faron — a sensational Provençal panorama, rare big cats at the zoo, and a moving WWII liberation museum, all in one dramatic morning.

What to expect

Board the historic cable car at the base station just 10 minutes from the port for a near-vertical, 6-minute ascent to the limestone summit plateau. The views over Toulon's vast natural harbour, the Îles d'Hyères and the Massif des Maures are among the finest on the entire Côte d'Azur. Explore the summit zoo — home to lions, tigers and leopards in spacious Provençal scrubland — and spend quiet, unhurried time in the WWII Provence Landing memorial. Descend in time for a long, relaxed port-side lunch.

Good to know

Cable car opens daily from 10:00; first ride up by 10:30 gives you the summit virtually to yourself. The base station is a short taxi or 20-min walk from the cruise terminal. No pre-booking required for the cable car, but check seasonal closure dates on the official website. All-aboard is typically 17:00–18:00 — you'll be back with hours to spare.
