Europe's most spectacular canyon — 700-metre limestone walls, a river of impossible emerald green, and hairpin corniche roads above the void. A private guided day here is a once-in-a-lifetime Provençal landscape experience that most Mediterranean cruisers never even attempt.
What to expect
Your private driver-guide collects you at the port early for the 1.5-hour transfer north into the Var hinterland and up to the Verdon plateau. Drive the legendary Route des Crêtes along the southern rim of the gorge, stopping at the Belvédère de la Mescla and the Palud-sur-Verdon viewpoints for photography that needs no filter. A leisurely Provençal lunch at a farmhouse auberge with local wine is included. In the afternoon, walk a short section of the Sentier Martel trail above the canyon floor before the scenic return to Toulon.
Good to know
This is a full-day excursion — depart by 08:30 and return to port by 17:30–18:00. Comfortable walking shoes and a light layer (the plateau is cooler than the coast) are essential. Pre-booking directly with Bonjour Provence is required; availability is limited for private departures. Best April–October.
