Hike out from Battle Harbour across to Great Caribou Island, a rugged coastal traverse with no trail crowds and sweeping views of the Labrador Sea.
What to expect
The path leaves the historic settlement behind and climbs over open barrens and rock, with the sea visible on multiple sides. Expect wind, changeable weather, and total quiet apart from birds and surf. It's a proper hike — uneven ground, a couple of hours round trip — rewarded by a sense of scale and remoteness that's rare on any cruise itinerary. Icebergs or whales offshore are a real possibility depending on season.
Good to know
Wear proper footwear and a windproof layer even in summer. Time your start carefully to allow a return crossing before your ship's departure — this is not a quick stop.
