A slow, guided wander through Avarua town and the Saturday-style produce market, led by a Rarotongan historian who explains colonial, missionary and island trading history.
What to expect
You start near Avatiu harbour, walking past the CICC church and colonial-era buildings while your guide traces the island's missionary and trading history. At Punanga Nui market you sample local produce, black pearl jewelry stalls, and fresh coconut. The walk ends at a quiet café for a Cook Islands coffee.
Good to know
Best done on a market day (Saturday) if your ship's schedule allows; otherwise the walk still runs with a smaller market. Comfortable shoes and cash for stalls recommended.
