Hubbard Glacier by Private Boat Charter

Cruise right up to North America's largest tidewater glacier as it calves into Yakutat Bay, on your own boat, at your own pace.

What to expect

You'll leave the small boat harbor and run roughly 30 miles up the bay past Disenchantment Bay, watching for seals hauled out on floating ice. The captain kills the engine near the face and waits, sometimes twenty or thirty minutes, for a genuine calving event. Bring layers; the wind off the ice is sharp even in July.

Good to know

Book weeks ahead in summer; weather can push departure times, so build in slack before all-aboard. Full-day, roughly 6-8 hours round trip.
