Climb the 1,237 steps of Wat Tham Suea before the heat and crowds, guided by someone who trained there, for a jungle-canopy Buddha view over Krabi.
What to expect
You start at the temple grounds among the giant golden Buddha statues and the eerie cave shrine, then begin the steep, exposed staircase. Your guide paces you, points out where monks meditate in cliffside huts, and times the summit for cooler air and clear light. At the top, all of Krabi's karst landscape spreads out beneath you.
Good to know
Go at first light — heat and crowds build fast after 9am, and the climb takes 45-90 minutes each way. Wear closed shoes; the temple grounds require modest dress.
