What to expect
You walk up from the harbor to a modest 1950s building on a hill. Inside, 24 floor-to-ceiling glass columns hold water collected from glaciers across Iceland, refracting light across the room as clouds pass outside. Rubber flooring is inlaid with words describing Icelandic weather in English and Icelandic. Most visitors spend 20-40 minutes, often alone or with only a couple of other people.
Good to know
A 10-15 minute uphill walk from the pier; open daily but hours vary off-season, so check ahead. Combine with the Norwegian House museum nearby for a short cultural loop.
