Climb to the modern concrete church perched above town for the best panoramic view of Breiðafjörður Bay's thousands of islands, ideally at quiet early-morning light before the day's crowds arrive.
What to expect
A short uphill walk brings you to the whale-rib-inspired concrete church, whose plain white interior has remarkable natural light and acoustics. Outside, the hilltop terrace gives a sweeping view over the harbor and the countless skerries of Breiðafjörður Bay. Early morning, before tour groups arrive, the site is nearly silent.
Good to know
About 10 minutes' walk uphill from the harbor; go right after the ship docks for the best light and fewest people. The church is sometimes closed for services — check the schedule.
