Join a private early-morning session at Fort Kochi's iconic Chinese Fishing Nets as local fishermen haul their ancient cantilever nets from the Arabian Sea at first light — photography, history and raw human drama at its most spectacular.
What to expect
In the purple pre-dawn, your guide leads you along the Fort Kochi waterfront to find the fishermen already at work beneath the silhouetted bamboo cantilevers. The nets — introduced by traders from the court of Kublai Khan over 500 years ago — are lowered into the sea and hauled up with a counterweight system of stones that requires four to six men. Your guide narrates the history, negotiates a hands-on demonstration, and points out the finest compositions for photography. The rising sun casting copper light across the Arabian Sea is, simply, unforgettable.
