Kayaking the UNESCO Geirangerfjord: Waterfall Paddling

Glide silently across the impossibly turquoise waters of UNESCO World Heritage–listed Geirangerfjord in a sea kayak, paddling through pristine mountain air beneath cliffs that soar 1,400 m overhead — a serene, muscle-powered intimacy with nature at its most spectacular.

What to expect

After a quick safety briefing on the village jetty, you ease into your kayak and push off into the glassy fjord. Within minutes the village recedes and you are alone beneath walls of ancient gneiss draped in hanging waterfalls. Your guide leads you toward the Gjerdefossen cascade, close enough to feel the cool mist on your face. Pause to float in silence — the only sound the drip of your paddle and the distant roar of snowmelt. The return paddle hugs the cliff base, revealing hidden grottos and nesting sea eagles overhead.
