Glide the protected waters of the Inside Passage on a small-vessel wildlife cruise and optional sea kayak, scanning for humpback whales, Steller sea lions, harbour seals, orcas, and eagles against a backdrop of glacier-carved fjords and old-growth coastline.
What to expect
You depart Wrangell's small-boat harbour and immediately enter the sheltered channels of the Alexander Archipelago, where bald eagles patrol overhead and sea otters float on their backs in the kelp. The captain positions the vessel with quiet patience near marine mammal activity, and if conditions allow, guests may disembark into stable sea kayaks to paddle silently among the coastal wildlife at water level. A warm cabin, hot drinks, and binoculars are provided throughout.
Good to know
Tours run approximately 2.5–3.5 hours; confirm the marine wildlife or kayak tour option at booking to match your available port time. Sea kayaking is optional and suits beginners — guides provide full instruction and stability gear. Dress in warm, waterproof layers regardless of forecast; marine temperatures are significantly colder than on land. Advance booking essential as small-boat capacity is strictly limited.
