The only fortified city still garrisoned in North America, La Citadelle crowns the Cape Diamant promontory with star-shaped bastions and sweeping river views. The VIP tour grants privileged access and an expert military historian guide.
What to expect
A uniformed regimental guide escorts your private group through the 1820s star fortress, revealing the Citadelle's role from the Napoleonic era through two World Wars to the present day. The legendary Changing of the Guard ceremony (summer mornings) adds a pageant of scarlet tunics and bearskin caps that few visitors plan around. From the ramparts, the panorama over the St. Lawrence and Île d'Orléans is among the finest in eastern Canada. The on-site museum houses regimental silver, battle trophies, and rare 18th-century cartography.
Good to know
Changing of the Guard runs daily at 10:00 am from late June to Labour Day — time your visit to catch it before your private tour begins. La Citadelle is a short uphill walk or taxi from the pier. Book the VIP tour by phone or email in advance.
