As the afternoon light turns gold, glide across Fulaga's mirror-calm inner lagoon on a stand-up paddleboard, then wade the exposed reef flat at low tide among starfish, sea cucumbers, and technicolour reef fish — a meditative close to a once-in-a-lifetime port day.
What to expect
Your guide meets you at the village beach with quality inflatable SUP boards and reef shoes sized to your feet. The paddleboard circuit hugs the inner shore of the lagoon, passing beneath the coral karst cliffs at their most photogenic hour. As the tide recedes, you beach the boards and step onto the shallow reef flat, where your guide narrates the ecology — nudibranch colonies, juvenile reef sharks in the channels, and the giant clams that villagers have protected for decades. The session ends at the beach as the sun dips behind the island rim, with cold coconut water waiting.
Good to know
This excursion depends on low-tide timing — confirm the tidal schedule for your port day when pre-booking. Suitable for all fitness levels; no SUP experience necessary. Plan for the all-aboard tender by scheduling the session to finish 60 minutes before departure. Waterproof your phone or bring an action camera for the reef-walk segment.
