Explore one of Europe's greatest garden estates — 47 acres of Italianate terraces, Japanese gardens, and sculpted parkland with the Wicklow Mountains as a backdrop — then visit Ireland's highest waterfall, just 6 km away.
What to expect
The drive south through County Wicklow unfolds into wooded demesne lanes and then the grand sweep of Powerscourt's entrance. The terraced gardens descend toward a Triton pool with Sugar Loaf Mountain behind — one of the most photographed vistas in Ireland. The walled kitchen garden and the rose garden reward slow exploration. Powerscourt Waterfall, a 121-metre plunge through ancient oak woodland, is a short drive and utterly tranquil.
Good to know
Powerscourt is approx. 30 min from Dún Laoghaire by private car. Half-day excursion (gardens + waterfall) is comfortably 4–5 hrs. The estate's café is excellent for lunch. Pre-purchase garden tickets on the Powerscourt website to save time at the gate.
