Go behind the scenes at Alaska's only public aquarium and ocean wildlife rescue centre, coming face-to-face with Steller sea lions, harbour seals, and seabirds in private keeper-led encounters unavailable to general visitors.
What to expect
Begin in the main galleries, where floor-to-ceiling tanks showcase Alaska's extraordinary marine biodiversity — from giant Pacific octopus to puffins diving underwater in slow motion. The private encounter then takes you backstage to meet rescued Steller sea lions and harbour seals at close range, with the trainer explaining the rehabilitation science behind each animal's story. A marine biologist Q&A rounds out the experience, making this as intellectually rich as it is emotionally unforgettable.
Good to know
The SeaLife Center is a 5-minute walk from the cruise tender dock — no transport required. Book the behind-the-scenes add-on directly on the Alaska SeaLife Center website well in advance; slots are extremely limited. General admission alone makes for an excellent 1.5–2 hour visit if encounter slots are full.
