Lace up crampons and step onto the Jostedalbreen — continental Europe's largest glacier — guided by certified mountain leaders across vivid blue ice and sculpted crevasse fields. A once-in-a-lifetime encounter with ancient ice that is retreating before our eyes.
What to expect
A scenic 45-minute transfer through the Jostedalen valley brings you to the glacier tongue, where guides fit you with harnesses, helmets and crampons. You ascend onto the living ice, navigating ridges of blue-green neve with the Nigardsbreen arm unfolding around you. The guide explains climate science with first-hand authority — this glacier has retreated hundreds of metres in living memory. Descent is via a separate route, maximising the landscape you cover.
