Ascend the tallest statue in Africa — taller than the Statue of Liberty — for a private guided summit visit and sweeping panoramas across Dakar, the Atlantic, and the Cape Verde Peninsula. An unmissable architectural marvel and cultural statement.
What to expect
Rising 49 metres from the top of one of Dakar's twin volcanic hills (Les Mamelles), the bronze monument depicts an African family striding boldly into the future. Your guide interprets the iconography and the political context as you ascend via internal stairs and lift to the crown viewing platform. The 360° view takes in the Atlantic Ocean, the lighthouse of Phare des Mamelles, and Dakar's entire sprawling skyline. On clear days you can see across to Gorée Island. Allow time to photograph the monument from below at the ornamental plaza.
Good to know
Located approximately 15 minutes by private car from the cruise terminal. Best visited in the morning for clear skies and cooler temperatures. The climb inside the statue involves narrow stairs — not suitable for those with mobility concerns. Combine with a lunch at the nearby Phare des Mamelles restaurant for a seamless luxury half-day.
