Journey to the award-winning Cheung Kok community ecotourism village for an intimate hands-on Khmer cooking class with a local family, preparing a traditional fish amok and fresh herb salads using produce harvested metres from the kitchen.
What to expect
A short boat ride or tuk-tuk transfer brings you to the peaceful riverside village of Cheung Kok, where your host family greets you with jasmine garlands and fresh coconut water. You gather herbs and lemongrass from the garden, then learn to pound a traditional kroeung spice paste in a stone mortar before preparing fish amok wrapped in banana leaves. The meal is served on woven mats overlooking the Mekong, accompanied by stories about village life and the community's conservation projects. The pace is warm, unhurried, and deeply genuine.
