Glide by traditional wooden caïque to the legendary St. George's Bay, widely considered Symi's most beautiful beach — a vivid horseshoe of turquoise water flanked by pine-dotted cliffs. One of those rare places that exceeds every photograph.
What to expect
The 20-minute sail from Gialos along Symi's eastern coastline is gorgeous in itself, with the island's neoclassical facades giving way to raw limestone cliffs plunging into electric-blue water. St. George's Bay is sheltered and calm, its pebble shore ringed by fragrant pine trees; the water is famously clear and cool even in high summer. A small taverna at the water's edge serves fresh fish and chilled Assyrtiko — the perfect post-swim indulgence. Snorkelling gear is often provided; the rocky fringes teem with sea life.
Good to know
Accessible only by boat, which makes it naturally less crowded than road-accessible beaches. Combine with a morning in Gialos town and aim to be back aboard at least 90 minutes before all-aboard. Sunbeds and umbrellas available directly at the beach for a small fee.
