Greet sunrise from a stand-up paddleboard on Fakarava's glassy inner lagoon, the water so clear you can see reef sharks and rays gliding beneath your board — a meditative, soul-restoring experience of rare natural stillness.
What to expect
You push off the white-sand beach as the sky turns tangerine and the lagoon mirrors every colour perfectly. The water is 28°C and so transparent your shadow falls on the coral 4 metres beneath. Blacktip reef sharks investigate your board from below — beautiful, not alarming. Your guide points out starfish, sea cucumbers, and parrotfish going about their morning routines undisturbed. Finish with a fresh coconut on the beach as the island wakes up around you.
Good to know
Dawn sessions (06:30–08:30) offer the calmest water and best light — ideal if your ship arrives early. SUP experience helpful but not required; single kayaks available for beginners. Raimiti is located in South Fakarava; confirm transfer logistics from the Rotoava tender pier when booking, as a short boat ride may be required.
