What to expect

Your master falconer meets you at a clifftop clearing above Avalon where the Pacific stretches uninterrupted to the horizon. After a brief introduction to equipment and technique, you don a leather gauntlet and the Harris's Hawk lands on your arm — its talons surprisingly gentle, its amber eyes startlingly alert. The bird launches, circles low over the sage-covered hillside, and arcs back to your fist on command. The session blends wildlife biology, island ecology, and sheer exhilaration.
