Ride on horseback through cloud-forest trails to the active Pacaya Volcano, where molten lava fields heat your pizza from below — one of the most extraordinary dining moments in Central America. An adventure that is equal parts thrill and spectacle.
What to expect
Horses carry you along forested switchback trails as Pacaya's summit looms above, occasionally exhaling plumes of smoke. As you reach the lava fields, the heat underfoot is palpable and the landscape turns otherworldly — black rock, red glowing fissures, and a 360° view of the Guatemalan highlands. Your guide prepares the pizza dough; you roast it on the volcano itself, then eat with a cold cerveza in hand at altitude. The descent is timed perfectly to return you to the port with ease.
Good to know
Pacaya is about 1 hour from the port. Wear closed-toe shoes or hiking boots — the lava rock is uneven. Bring a light layer; temperature drops with altitude. Pre-book at least several days ahead as small-group slots fill fast. Confirm your all-aboard time before booking departure windows.
