La Paz is the world's most reliable whale-shark destination, and slipping into calm turquoise water alongside the ocean's largest fish is a genuinely once-in-a-lifetime moment. No cage, no crowds — just you and a 30-foot gentle giant.
What to expect
A fast panga whisks you 20 minutes into the Bay of La Paz, where spotter boats locate the gentle giants feeding near the surface. You'll slip in with a snorkel and simply hover alongside creatures up to 12 metres long. Multiple encounters are typical on a single excursion. Back on board, guides share marine biology insights over fresh fruit and cold drinks.
Good to know
Season is November through April — perfectly aligned with most Mexican Riviera cruise itineraries. Departs La Paz marina (~20 min taxi from Pichilingue); tours run 3–4 hours. Pre-book at least 2 weeks ahead as capacity is strictly limited to protect the animals.
