Meet the indigenous Sami people at their traditional Arctic camp near Nordkapp, hear the ancient joik song, feed and herd reindeer, and learn the living culture of Europe's last nomadic people. A profound, once-in-a-lifetime cultural encounter.
What to expect
Transferred to a traditional lavvu (Sami tent camp) on the Magerøya plateau, you are welcomed by Sami hosts who have herded reindeer on this tundra for generations. You help feed and move the reindeer herd, listen to the haunting joik vocal tradition, and warm yourself by the open fire with bidos (traditional reindeer stew) and cloudberry dessert. Sami guides share their cosmology, their relationship with the Arctic land and the very real challenges of maintaining this culture today. It is humbling, warm and utterly unforgettable.
