Sail to the achingly beautiful Saona Island on a private catamaran, drift through a natural starfish lagoon, and feast on a Dominican seafood lunch on the sand. This is the Caribbean at its most cinematic — and completely untouched.
What to expect
Board a sleek catamaran at Bayahibe and glide across crystalline turquoise water to Parque Nacional del Este. Wade into the shallow starfish lagoon — the water barely reaches your knees — before continuing to Saona's white-sand shore. A full Dominican lunch of fresh fish, rice, beans, and plantains is served beachside with cold Presidente beer and rum punch flowing freely. The return sail runs with the wind, often fast enough to spray the bow.
Good to know
Bayahibe is approximately 90 minutes from the Punta Cana cruise dock; pre-arrange private transfers. Book directly with Amstar well in advance as VIP configurations sell out. Confirm all-aboard time and allow 30 minutes' buffer for the return tender.
