Navigate one of Australia's most dramatic coastal loops — from the Gap and Natural Bridge to Blowholes and Misery Beach in Torndirrup National Park — on this self-paced drive through raw Southern Ocean landscapes that defy every superlative.
What to expect
The drive begins just 15 minutes south of the port, entering Torndirrup National Park along a ridge of ancient granite. The Gap is a sheer-sided chasm where 20-metre Southern Ocean swells surge and thunder — a visceral, humbling experience. The Natural Bridge is a sculpted granite arch worn smooth by millennia of wave action. Misery Beach, despite its name, is a perfect white-sand crescent of extraordinary beauty, sheltered from the fury just metres away. Each stop is connected by an easy coastal loop of no more than 30 minutes total driving.
Good to know
Hire a car at the port for full flexibility — the loop takes 3–4 hours including stops and photography. Stay well back from unfenced cliff edges; the Southern Ocean's king waves are unpredictable and extremely dangerous. Best in the morning when light is golden on the granite. The drive pairs perfectly with a stop at Whale World on the return to the ship.
