Board a dedicated whale-watch vessel in the sheltered waters of Geographe Bay — one of Australia's premier humpback and southern right whale corridors — and witness these 40-tonne giants breach and fluking at astonishingly close range.
What to expect
Departing from nearby Dunsborough (20 minutes from Busselton), the vessel heads into Geographe Bay, where humpbacks and southern right whales congregate during their annual migration. The onboard marine biologist narrates each sighting — breaches, spy-hops, tail-slaps — and interprets the social behaviours unfolding around you. Sightings are virtually guaranteed in season, and the crew offers a return trip if whales are not encountered.
Good to know
Peak season runs June to early December; humpbacks peak August–October, southern rights September–November. Tours depart from Dunsborough Boat Harbour — arrange a private transfer from Busselton (approx. AUD 40–60 one-way). Book well ahead on cruise-call dates. Allow 3.5 hours total (transfer + 3-hour cruise) and confirm all-aboard departure before selecting your tour time.
