Soar over the Kimberley's greatest natural wonder — watch Montgomery Reef rise from the sea as the tide drops, then land and cruise its cascading waterfalls by Zodiac. A once-in-a-lifetime aerial-to-water encounter with Australia's largest inshore reef.
What to expect
Your helicopter lifts off and the Kimberley coast unfolds below you — turquoise channels, ochre pindan cliffs, and then the vast grey-white plateau of Montgomery Reef emerging from the receding tide like a lost continent. You touch down on the reef itself, stepping out to hear the roar of tidal waterfalls cascading off its edges. A naturalist-guided Zodiac then weaves you through the channels at water level, where sea turtles surface, reef sharks glide beneath the hull, and dugongs graze in the shallows. Lunch is served onboard before the return flight.
Good to know
Departures are timed precisely to coincide with the outgoing tide — the reef only 'rises' for a narrow window each day, so the schedule is non-negotiable. Pre-book well in advance as seats are strictly limited. Confirm the all-aboard time with your ship and allow generous transfer time to the helipad.
