Descend into Madagascar's most dramatic karst landscape: the white Tsingy limestone needles of Ankarana, a UNESCO-recognised reserve hiding cave systems, sacred crocodile lakes, and 11 species of lemur.
What to expect
A private 4x4 departs the port early for the 1.5-hour drive to Ankarana Special Reserve, a plateau of razor-sharp white limestone pinnacles riddled with underground rivers and caves. Your accredited MNP park guide leads you through cathedral canyons of Tsingy to the eerie Lac Sacré, where sacred Nile crocodiles bask on the banks — undisturbed for centuries by Malagasy fady (taboo). Sifaka lemurs leap spectacularly between the stone needles overhead, and tiny chameleons dot the dry forest floor. This is one of the most visually dramatic ecosystems on the planet.
Good to know
Depart by 06:30 for an approximate 10-hour day — confirm all-aboard time before booking. Park entry fees apply (approx. USD 12). Closed shoes are mandatory; this involves some scrambling on sharp rock. Pre-book private transport and guide well in advance, as Ankarana requires an early start from the port.
