Cijin Island: Ferry, Fresh Seafood & Secret Beach Escape

Hop the three-minute ferry to Cijin Island — Kaohsiung's sunniest, most carefree escape — and cycle its car-free promenade past century-old temples, a colonial lighthouse and a blissful stretch of beach rarely crowded before noon.

What to expect

The Gushan Ferry Terminal is a short taxi or MRT ride from the cruise pier. A five-minute crossing lands you on a traffic-free island where you can rent a pastel-coloured bicycle and freewheel along the seafront. Climb to the 1883 Qijin Lighthouse for sweeping harbour views, then reward yourself with oyster vermicelli or pepper crab at one of the beloved open-air seafood stalls. The island's hidden 'Secret Beach' on the ocean-facing side is ideal for a quiet afternoon swim.

Good to know

Ferries run every few minutes all day; no pre-booking needed. Combine with the Dome of Light MRT stop en route. Ideal for a half-day; easy to be back on board with hours to spare. Cash NTD preferred for ferry and bicycle rental.
