Pipeline Road in Soberanía National Park is regularly ranked the world's single best birding road, with over 500 species recorded. A private expert naturalist turns a morning rainforest walk into a living David Attenborough documentary.
What to expect
Your guide meets you dockside at Balboa and transfers you 30 minutes to the park entrance. The forest closes in immediately: motmots, toucans, mantled howler monkeys, and Geoffrey's tamarin are routine sightings. Optics — professional Swarovski binoculars and a spotting scope — are provided. Midway through, a cooler of chilled local fruits and sparkling water appears for a trailside pause. The walk runs 3–4 hours at a leisurely, observational pace.
Good to know
Morning departures (6–7 am) are essential for peak wildlife activity. Wear neutral-coloured, lightweight long sleeves and closed shoes. Book directly and request a bilingual ornithologist. Allow 5–6 hours total including transfers.
