Hvalsey & Kujataa UNESCO Heritage Guided Kayak Exploration

Paddle a sea kayak through the mirror-still waters of Hvalsey Fjord, approaching the Norse ruins as the Viking settlers once approached — silently, from the sea. This is the most intimate, immersive way to experience one of the Arctic's most storied coastlines.

What to expect

After a quick paddling briefing at the Qaqortoq waterfront, you launch into the fjord in a stable sit-on or touring kayak guided by a certified local instructor. The route hugs the shoreline, passing weathered cliffs and curious seals before rounding into the bay where Hvalsey's stone gable ends rise above the grass. You beach the kayaks and explore the ruins on foot with your guide. The paddle back offers golden-hour light on the hillsides.
