Step into a living traditional village for a private, fully immersive Melanesian cultural experience — warrior dances, kastom ceremonies, and shell-money craft demonstrations performed by genuine community members, not performers.
What to expect
Your private vehicle winds inland from Honiara to a village where time moves differently. Elders greet you with a formal welcome ceremony before leading you through the kastom dances that mark births, marriages and battles. You're invited to try your hand at weaving traditional shell money — the region's original currency — under the patient tuition of village women. A communal feast of freshly prepared local food follows, eaten together with village families. The warmth and pride of the community is the lasting memory.
Good to know
The tour runs approximately 4 hours including transport. Dress modestly — covered knees and shoulders are respectful. Bring small SBD notes to purchase handcrafted shell-money jewellery directly from the artisans. Book at least 72 hours in advance to allow the village to prepare the ceremony.
